The CommCard Program

Facilitating effective communication between helping professionals and

people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

What is The CommCard Program?

The CommCard Program is designed to facilitate calm and effective communication between people with developmental disabilities and the professionals who serve them (i.e. police, healthcare providers, transportation security, etc.). Without accommodations, interactions between helping professionals and people with developmental disabilities can have negative outcomes. They need tools to ensure appropriate accommodations are requested and made.

The CommCard Program includes training and practice time with helping professionals. Each participant receives a wallet-sized card that is customized to include their advocates’ phone numbers, behaviors that may be misunderstood and reasonable communication accommodations.
